COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

What is the novel COVID-19?
COVID-19 or Coronavirus disease 2019 is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. In this case novel simply means new as it was first identified recently in Wuhan, China.
The virus spreads very easily and very rapidly and symptoms can include fever, coughing and shortness of breath. Many patients are asymptomatic (not showing symptoms) while others may develop life-threatening conditions such as pneumonia.

What you can do

  • Stay home – the best way to prevent illness is to not be exposed to the virus. Stay at home especially if you are sick to prevent further spread. Unless, of course, you need medical help.
  • Wash your hands – use soap and water and wash more often after being in a public place or after coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid close contact – practice social distancing and avoid close contact with those that are sick.
